Gilpin Gold and Other Tales

The story of Carr Waller Pritchett, Jr., a young mining engineer who hires on with the Gilpin Mine outside Steamboat Springs, Routt County, Colorado, in hopes of making his fortune in gold. Based on excerpts from letters that Carr wrote to his sweetheart after he left, this is also the story of Steamboat Springs in its infancy and an account of homesteaders in the Elk River valley as they begin to tame the wild meadows.
