Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 7B Obituary - November 19, 2014

Thomas John Weingardt, our
beloved husband, father, brother,
grandfather, great-grandfather,
and friend, passed away peacefully
on November 12, 2014. As our
lives were turned upside down just
weeks ago with the news of Tom’s
sickness, he bore the news with
integrity, honor, and strength. He
never once doubted God’s plan for his life, instead he was thankful for
the opportunity to love and be loved in his final days.
Tom was born on February 13, 1938, in Sterling, Colorado to hardy,
loving German immigrants, Margaret (Schneider) and Frank Weingardt.
Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany for three
years. After returning home, Tom and his lovely bride, Sharon Hergenreter,
were married on February 11, 1961, and then settled in Denver
with their three children, Lisa, Roger, and Karin.
The family cruised the interstate in their 1970s wood-paneled station
wagon, went 4-wheeling in Tom’s ‘56 Ford pickup, and spent most
their summers camping around Colorado. Tom knew every good fishing
spot around the state, though rarely caught a thing. Tom was known
for rescuing ducklings, enjoying an ice-cold beer every afternoon, and
generally giving everyone he knew a hard time. He always made us
smile.
After 35 years of service with AT&T, Tom retired, then moved to
Grand Junction with Sharon. Most of Tom’s time was spent in his heated
garage restoring classic cars, fishing with his grandkids, and visiting
family. He had a servant’s heart, and was busy delivering meals to the
homebound and picking up food for the soup kitchen.
“Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23). We love you,
and cling to our belief that goodbye is not forever.
Service to be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita, CO. on
