Robert (Bob) M. Pengra, 87 of
Fruita, Colorado passed away on
March 7, 2013 following a brief
illness. Visitation will be at Callahan
Edfast Mortuary in Grand
Junction from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday
March 9. A celebration of
Bob’s life will be held on Sunday
March 10, at 2 p.m. at the Fruita
United Methodist Church.
Bob was born January 20, 1926, in Rapid City, SD where he attended
school. He entered the Navy in 1944, serving as a signalman
in the Pacific. After the Navy, he attended South Dakota State University.
Bob married Ruth W. Volk in 1951. They moved to Madison,
Wisconsin where he received his PhD in microbiology. He re -
turned to South Dakota State University, where he taught and
researched until retirement in 1996. He had a passion for teaching
and mentoring his many students and graduate students.
He married Lillian Wilsey in 1983. They were very active in t e
United Methodist Church and the Brookings Senior Citizens and
loved to attend the Senior Center Dances. Bob carried his love of
teaching into retirement, volunteering in elementary school cla ses
both in South Dakota and then in Fruita after moving to Colorado in
2008. Bob was preceded in death by his grandson Dustin Gulbranson,
He is survived by his wife Lillian; children Bruce Pengra, SD,
Anita Hill, NM, Mary Devor, PA, Cy Wilsey, NV, Roxy, AZ, Don
Wilsey, NM, Joe Wilsey, WV, Gary Wilsey, Grand Junction, Winnie
Storm, Fruita, Leslie Maggi, Quatar, Angie Robinson, TX, Carrie
Epperson, Grand Junction.

Robert “Bob” M. Pengra, 87, Fruita, died March 7, 2013, at the
Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Junction.
A visitation is planned for Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. A celebration of
life is planned for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Fruita United Methodist
Church.
Mr. Pengra was a professor.
He is survived by a wife, Lillian; a son Bruce of Fruita; two
daughters, Anita Hill of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Mary Devor of East
Berlin, Penn.; a brother David of Katy, Tex.; a sister Joy Potter of
Burnsville, Minn; 33 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
