Daryl Ray "Opa" Avenell of
Loma, CO left these earthly bonds
and walked into the loving arms
of his Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ on March 20, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Doris
of Loma and her family; daughter,
Leona Roberts of Pagosa Springs;
granddaughter, Lisa Nieslanik and
her family of Carbondale, and
granddaughter, Erika Miller and her family of Crockett, TX; brother,
Merlin of Chandler, AZ, and his beloved dog, Jack. He was preceded
in death by his parents, and wife of 51 years, Barbara.
Daryl was a career army veteran of 26 years, serving in Germany,
Korea, and Greece. He retired at Ft. Carson, Colorado Springs. He
was born and raised in South Dakota. He lived most of his life in
Colorado. Daryl loved living in this country, raising hay and a few
animals.
He loved his family and pets, and could always make people laugh.
He was a great husband, dad, and grandpa ("Opa"). He will be
dearly missed by everyone.
An informal celebration of Daryl's life will be held at the Veteran’s
Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his
name to Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 2121 North Ave., Grand
Junction, CO 81501.

died March 20, 2011, at St. Mary’s
Hospital.
Services at Veterans Memorial
Cemetery are pending with
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
Mr. Avenell was a maintenance
worker for El Paso
County.
Survivors include his wife,
Doris A.; one daughter, Leona
Roberts of Pagosa Springs; one
brother, Merlin of Casa Grande,
Ariz.; two grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.
