Railway to Camp Hale, winter. Dick Lowe was foreman when this line was put in. Pando was the name of the siding. There were 85 Indians working on the line. Calling card from Lucky GJ Ranch, at the confluence of Sweetwater Creek and the Colorado River. Margaret Smith, Edith Eidem, and Delia Bridget O'Callaghan, three WW II ex-Wacs, bought the Ranch in February 1947 from Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stewart. They operated the 300-acre ranch as a dude ranch. There was a thirty-two room ranch house that they cleaned up and then they added cabins and worked fields. Gene Godat worked as their hunting guide for tourists....

Darrell Barnes in Navy uniform. He was employed by New Jersey Zinc at Gilman after college graduation and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served as a radioman for 32 months and then returned to New Jersey Zinc. He became chief accountant at the Gilman office and assisted New Jersey Zinc offices in Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
