"Casper Schumm was born in Dwight, Ill., October 5, 1856 and came to Leadville Colo., in 1879. He stayed in and around Leadville for some time and then went to Cattle creek in Garfield county where he spent the winter. The following year he went to Eagle county and in 1881 he homesteaded a ranch on the Eagle river between what is now the towns of Eagle and Gypsum. In 1888 he married Mary Zabel, and...
