Engine No. 211 dead On Marshall Pass, February 21-24, 1899. Marshall Pass, elevation 10,842 ft., in between Salida and Gunnison, Colorado. This was part of Denver & Rio Grande's narrow gauge from Denver to Salt Lake City, 1881-1955.

This plaque is at the Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, also known as Julia's Deck, on the Shrine Pass Trail. Shrine Pass Road [FSR 709], a maintained dirt road, connects Vail and Red Cliff
The first section is Psalm 104:24 and the prayer following is unattributed. Interestingly enough, these same quotations are on plaques at the Grand Canyon and the Bronte Waterfall (England).

11) Julia's Deck

Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, also known as Julia's Deck, on the Shrine Pass Road [FSR 709], a maintained dirt road, connects Vail and Red Cliff. The overlook was built as handicapped access to the overlook by volunteers representing PAWS, an organization providing recreational facilities for handicapped people.
The photo was taken in July 1994. Quinn and Buster Beck are getting a great view of the Mount of the Holy Cross in the Sawatch Range...
12) B & B Boys

"B & B Boys, Tennessee Pass." They are at the tunnel entrance at Tennesse Pass, most likely on the east side, not far from the depot location. This is the tunnel that collapsed under the highway in July 2012.
Tom Gill is at far right. There are three people standing on scaffolding which is pulled on wheels by a horse along the tracks through the tunnel. The scaffolding is used to do work inside the tunnel. [Information courtesy of Jimmy Blouch]...

Pete Mann using burros to pack ore out of the Glengarry Mine [standardized spelling from GNIS]. The Glengarry Mine (Holy Cross Mining District) is .76 mile from Holy Cross City and at an elevation of 11,414 ft. The mining season was short at this elevation.
