"This photograph appeared on the inside cover of the 1928 Eagle High School yearbook [Lux Aquilae]. Although there was never a big population of bighorn sheep on Brush Creek, they were known to winter there. The animals could be found in the summer on New York Mountain, Fools Peak, at Nolan Lake and in the Metheney Park area. 10) Vail Pass, 1951

A postcard of Vail Pass. The postmark is dated October 22, 1951. Following the completion of Highway 6 over the pass, the Eagle County Commissioners asked the state highway board to name the pass Vail Pass, after Charles D. Vail, the chief engineer for the State Highway Department. The request, originally put forth in December of 1939, was approved in 1941.
