"An early day log dwelling a little similar to the Wohler house, but built by Tom Elliott on his Mother's homestead. Besides the Elliott family who lived here over twenty years, succeeding occupants were the Grays, Grohs, Grimes, Kaysers and Holts.
The dirt roof building on the extreme left was the original building and the rest were additions. The logs in this building and many other in the vicinity are as sound today as in the day they were cut...

The VanCamp road house, a stage stop, in Routt County. There is an antler fence around the building and sod roof, resulting in its being the subject of many photographs.

The Tom Elliott place on Rock Creek. The ranch house is on the right with corrals and barn at left. The ranch is in Routt County, two miles north of McCoy. Irrigation was from the creek in order to grow supplementary feed for winter.s

A view of the Cottonwood School, which was in School District No. 5, Upper Gypsum.
"I taught 8 months in this building which belonged to "Cottonwood" Frank Doll on Cottonwood Creek. Whether the district no. 5 had to pay rent, I don't know, and if school was held here more than one year. For one or more years school was held in another bulding on Cottonwood. The Schlutter and Pierce families attended. I lived in the building and ate meals at Dolls'...

One of the log houses on "Thirteen" in Burns, Colorado. The area is now part of the "Twenty-one" Ranch belonging to Benton Land & Livestock Co. The houses are no longer in existence. The sod roof on the log building is clearly visible.

Sod-roofed log cabin, in the yard at the "Baily Place," currently (1986) owned by Ben Wurtsmith. John Bailey homesteaded this area of Burns, Colorado, in the 1890's.
