Katherine "Kate" Johannbroer Butler inherited the ranch from her mother, Helene Johannbroer, in 1911. In 1920, Kate sold the ranch to John Ambos, Jr.

"The main part of this ranch house on the Black Mountain Ranch was built by Anton "Tony" Johannbroer in 1910, and the addition on the right by John Ambos in 1928. Tony and his wife Rebecca only occupied it a few weeks, the Butler family eight years, Amboses twenty, then the Atwoods for several years. Cabin belonging to the Tetreault family of Red Cliff. This photo was taken on Oct. 26, 2010.
Frank "Frenchy" Tetrault was married to Agnes. They had a son, John, and a daughter, Sue.

"This well constructed log building is located on the original Gore Road, between Toponas and Kremmling. Called the Rock Creek Ranch Road House, it was built by Jim Gates about 1900 and served as a stage stop with rooms and meals for travelers. Both floors had a porch running the length of the building. A photo of the Rock Creek stage stop in 2000, prior to restoration. Historic Routt County! partnered with the Colorado State Historical Fund, Colorado Preservation Inc., U.S. Forest Service, and the Department of Wildlife to replace, repair and stabilize the logs as well as chinking the exterior. The work was completed in 2003 and the ribbon cutting ceremony was held August 30, 2003. The Gates Family was a part of this partnership, as well.
