His interest in softball was recognized by the City of Steamboat Springs which named Klumker Field in his honor.

Murl Carlton "Bud" Johnsen describes growing up in Benton Minnesota, his service in the U.S. Navy and his early jobs. As a realtor he helped establish Stagecoach Ski Resort. He became a business owner and was involved in various community organizations in Steamboat Springs.
