Howard G. Bayer was born at Lower Meaghers Grant, Nova Scotia, August 23, 1885. He was trained as an engineer and was at one point affiliated with the Stearns-Roger Company. He came to Eagle County in 1917, marrying Ethel Boies of Red Cliff in 1918. After a mining accident, he became a carpenter and decorator, living in Minturn.
