Routt County native C.O. Dunckley passed away Oct. 30, 2008, at the Medical Center of Aurora, South Campus. He was 90.
Clarence Otto Dunckley was born Nov. 27, 1917, to Walter and Mary (Yoast) Dunckley at their homestead near Phippsburg. He spent his younger years there and in Yampa and Steamboat Springs.
He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in December 1940, and he fought with General George Patton's army in North Africa and Italy during World War II. After the war, he left the service briefly, then re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired in 1965 as a Technical Sergeant after 24 years of service.
On June 4, 1953, he married W. Joan Milner, who preceded him in death June 26, 1996, after 43 years of marriage. They spent many years traveling and managing apartments, motels and trailer parks, until they bought their home at Windsor Gardens in Denver and retired again.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Herman and Chester Dunckley, and sisters Verna Robinson and Dorothy Wright. He is survived by several nephews and nieces and many friends.
Graveside services were held Friday at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
