Mrs. Elizabeth Conway BYERS, of Canon City, Colo., and a former Gypsum and Eagle resident, died Jan. 24 in Colorado Springs. She was born in Gypsum Aug. 19, 1911 to Dr. William L. and Lillian A. CONWAY.
Mrs. BYERS grew up in Gypsum, and in 1930 she married Charles BYERS, who preceded her in death in 1996. She spent most of her adult life in Eagle. She was the postmistress for over 30 years. Some residents may remember Mrs. BYERS for her brightly painted post office windows at Christmas time. After Mrs. BYERS retired she and her husband moved to Canon City.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. BYERS is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Meda.
Mrs. BYERS is survived by her sister, Starr (Morton) DOLL, a nephew Buddy DOLL, and her children" Larry (Carolyn) BYERS of Columbine Valley, Colo.; Beverly (William) MATTICS of Colorado Springs; grandchildren: Susan (Greg) BROZOVICH of Golden; Steven (Tara) BYERS of Falls Church, Va.; Sherri (John) CROGHAN of Lakeheath, Great Britain, and seven great-grandchildren.
